Eric Stokes MCIOB
Eric would like to thank members for their support during the recent Trustee elections. He is honoured to be chosen as a Trustee of our Institute and intends to work to represent all membership levels and serve our wider public interests.
Following the end of his mechanical engineering apprenticeship with a large multi-national engineering organisation, Eric became involved in the design of instrumentation control rooms for large petrochemical complexes around the world.
His involvement in project managing the construction of these complex buildings lead to additional qualification with the CIOB. He has moved on to become a construction project manager for design and build organisations in the north west of England specialising in turnkey refurbishment projects for most of the UK’s major brewers.
For most of his working life he has been involved in the project management role and I am fortunate that the construction industry has never let him down in terms of its dynamism, interest, variety and sustainable employment. Eric says that CIOB qualifications have served well and have been the door to many opportunities.
During the last 17 years he has been employed in the higher education sector delivering industry relevant part-time and full-time fully accredited construction degree programmes at the University of Salford.
Most recently, and following the Blue Book revisions, Eric has chaired the CIOB Greater Manchester Centre in 2005/6, followed by terms of office in 2007/8 as Chair of the new CIOB NW Branch.
Eric lives with his family in the Peak National Park where he is lucky enough to be able to enjoy the wonderful environment. Outside of work his interests are in the aviation field and he is a holder of both UK and US Federal private pilots’ licences.
