Martin Chambers PPCIOB

Martin is Network Rail’s Programme Director responsible for the £500m redevelopment of Birmingham’s New Street Station.

With over twenty five years' experience in the industry, Martin is well-versed in putting his clients first, working extensively delivering Project and Construction Management, Design and Manage, Management Contracting, and Prime Contracting solutions.

Martin has achieved a number of noteworthy successes during his career to date, including winning the title the Association for Project Management's “Young Project Manager of the Year” in 1995.

Having most recently been with Laing O'Rourke, Martin was responsible for the integration of the group's construction and technology interests into the £500m first phase of Nottingham's Eastside Regeneration Area. 

Prior to joining Laing O'Rourke he was Bovis Lend Lease Program Director and team leader for the 10 year, £1bn Defence Estates Project SLAM Prime Contract for the provision of accommodation for service personnel across England and Wales.

Prior to joining Bovis Lend Lease as Midlands Regional Director, Martin was the Associate Director for Mace Limited in the Midlands. He was responsible for the extremely successful £114m Millennium Point project in Birmingham, where he now serves on the Board. Millennium Point was the catalyst for the start of Birmingham City Council's current £6bn redevelopment of the City's Eastside.

Martin graduated from Aston University, Birmingham in 1981 and then, following 2 years working overseas with George Wimpey, he went on to complete a Diploma in Employment Studies at Salford University.

Currently Martin holds a number of external appointments, including:

  • Non-executive Director of Millennium Point Property Ltd.
  • Chair of Family Housing Association, Birmingham
  • Independent Chair of Standards Committee of the West Midlands Fire & Rescue Service
  • A Business Sector member of the West Midlands Regional Assembly Planning Partnership 
  • Alternate Member of the West Midlands Regional Assembly

Martin's contribution to CIOB has been considerable, having served as Chairman of his local Centre, Branch and Regional Development Group.

Martin has most recently led the Institute’s review of its Local Organisation Structure is currently chair of CIOB’s Membership & Support Services Board.
