January 2012Letter to Michael Gove MP in response to plans to drop BREEAM requirements for school construction and refurbishment. CIOB believes this is a misguided move that will harm long-term cost and carbon savings.Department for Education (DfE)
January 2012Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) - While we support the aims of the Green Deal and ECO, there are a number of issues that require addressing if they are to succeed. We are concerned that the Green Deal in its current form offers no real incentives for consumers to actually install energy efficiency measures at their properties.  On the reverse to this, there also appear to be few regulatory mechanisms in place to guide it into position.Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC)
December 2011Feed-in Tariffs for Solar PV - While CIOB agrees that the FIT required cutting given the spending implications and reduced cost of manufacturing PV, the cut of over 50% for small-scale PV within six weeks is simply too far, too fast. This will have a devastating impact on hundreds of businesses and thousands of individuals taking forward their solar PV plans on the expectation of the old tariff levels and previous cut-off point.Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC)
July 2011Letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer in support of introduction of Display Energy Certificates (DECs) to the commercial sector, spearheaded by the UK-GBC.Rt Hon George Osborne MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer
July 2011Measuring and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions by UK companies - The CIOB believes that enhanced voluntary reporting should be explored, alongside mandatory reporting for the worst emitting companies that links to the CRC-scheme. In addition, the reporting should align itself with other Government policy and focus on carbon dioxide rather than all 6 Kyoto-identified GHGs.Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)
April 2011Costs and Benefits of Energy Efficiency Measures - The CIOB recommends that, in cases where refurbishment and retrofit need to be carried out, the simple and least effective measures, which provide some of the best results, should always be considered in the first instance. The Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes (EEPH), on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC)
December 2010IGT Low Carbon Construction - We welcome the review of low carbon construction, and call for Building Regulations to drive progress in greening the industry.Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS)
