Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
gain professional status and your platinum cscs card in the countdown to 2010 |
How will you manage a competent workforce without your Manager (Platinum) CSCS card? How will you make visits to check on site progress without your Professionally Qualified Person (Yellow) card?
The answer is to get qualified! MCIOB plus the Manager Health and Safety Test will give you the credibility to manage in a new era of competency.
Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) members, Gill Trodden FCIOB and Richard Larcombe FCIOB, have co-authored an advice document which shows how becoming a CIOB member enables you to achieve the higher levels of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
The aims of the CSCS card are to confirm the competence of the workforce in the industry and to raise standards in health and safety. Over one million CSCS cards have been issued so far, but the government has set targets to have 1.6 million card carriers by 2010, rising to 2 million by 2015.
To attain the card, applicants must have reached certain competence benchmarks, such as relevant NVQ qualifications, or at a higher level, equivalent professional qualification. Health and safety standards are also tested.
One of the best ways of achieving the CSCS card is to become a corporate member of The Chartered Institute of Building. MCIOB allows you to achieve either the Manager (Platinum), or the Professionally Qualified Person (Yellow) card. Even if you are not a full corporate member, Students, ACIOBs and ICIOBs can take the health and safety test to apply for the Trainee (Red) card.
Gill Trodden and Richard Larcombe’s guidance document provides all the information you need on the relevant routes to CIOB membership and where these correspond to CSCS application.
