Clamouring for green building in the construction industry is on the rise. Green building supports the health, comfort, and wellbeing of building inhabitants without comprising the wellbeing of the Earth. Studies have also shown that green building make money sense. To help construction professionals in realising the goals of green building, several non-governmental bodies like LEED (US), BREEAM (UK), ESTIDAMA (UAE), etc have developed several criteria. However, issues relating to process of achieving green building goals still need further enhancement. Process management is an essential tool which majority of people do overlook or do not pay much attention to. If the process is wrong or inadequate, the green building goals may not be achieved effectively if achieved at all. This may have significant impacts on future acceptance of green building practices. This talk will address the role of a new paradigm (total building performance ‘TBP’ approach) in improving the quality of process management across building delivery stages. The concept usually involves different professionals to consciously produce a synergetic design that addresses various building performance mandates. TBP does not only prescribe solutions but rather it demonstrates that intended objectives are met i.e. it adopts prescriptive and performance-based approach in achieving high performance building. This talk is essential because of its importance in helping construction professionals in achieving building carbon emission reduction and improvement in creating sustainable buildings.
