Course Objectives:
At the end of the course, participants should be able to:-
· Be able to design pavements in accordance with the provisions of Volume 7.
Course Outline:
Session 1 Introduction.
The function of Volume 7 and its relationship to the other parts of the DMRB.
Explanation of its constitution.
Session 2 Traffic Assessment
Content and use of Hd 24/06.
Session 3 Foundations
Content and use of IAN 73/06 (Draft Hd 25).
Session 4 Key Issues Affecting Pavement Behaviour
Discussions of relevant factors affecting pavement design.
Session 5 Pavement Design
Content and use of Hd 26/06.
Session 6 Choice of Surface Course
Consideration of the contents of Hd36/06
Session 7 Review and Discussion.
Intended for:
· those involved in the design of pavements in particular and highway schemes in general (both new works and maintenance construction); and
· those wishing to gain an insight into the range of materials available including the use and suitability of thin surfacings and EME2.
