The fifteenth annual Fire Safety Conference, organised by the Northern Ireland Fire Safety Panel, is taking place on the 3rd and 4th February 2010 at the Radisson Blu Roe Park Resort, Limavady. The Fire Safety Liaison Panel encompasses the disciplines of Building Control, Fire & Rescue Service and Entertainment Licensing Officers Forum. This year’s Conference will focus on the current issues relating to Fire Safety in the built environment. The conference will consider the latest research, review pending legislation and demonstrate best practice. This event will be on interest to all practitioners who operate within fire safety design, construction and use of buildings. It will be of particular interest to enforcing authorities. The Conference aims to be interactive and will involve audience participation. A range of high quality speakers have been gathered together to present papers on topical and thought provoking issues. To embed the learning, speakers will use a host of scenarios and case studies; all practical examples which you may encounter in any of our provincial towns or cities. For further details or to book your place please contact Mike Christie at christiem@belfastcity.gov.uk Why should I attend? The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) supports a wide range of events that explore important issues and are of value to members of the construction industry. It selects those that it feels will inform, challenge, promote knowledge sharing and aid continuing professional development (CPD). What will I achieve? The objectives of the events vary depending on the topic and the format. In general, they hope to reinforce and update participants’ current knowledge and skills, as well as enabling attendees to build on existing relationships and make new contacts. Subject areas cover the whole construction spectrum. Typical topics include building regulations, health and safety, sustainability, waste management and other industry issues. What can I expect? Non-CIOB events are led by external organisers and feature respected speakers from a variety of leading companies and organisations. They all provide excellent networking opportunities. Who should attend? As per the organiser’s website, the event is opened to trade visitors only. Contractors, constructors and manufacturers of building materials are all welcome.
