CASE STUDY: DR ANDREW TOWNSEND MCIOB CEnv

As a project officer at Bristol & Region Archaeological Services, CIOB Ambassador and Chartered Environmentalist Andrew Townsend is well-placed to understand the important and often misunderstood relationship between archaeology and construction.

Following a 12-year career as a surveyor, Andrew decided to retrain following some voluntary shifts on a local archaeological excavation. CIOB membership and his experience in the construction made him an ideal fit for his current role.

"I like to think of construction and archaeology as being on the same team rather than two separate entities. CIOB membership has allowed me to access the most up-to-date construction thinking and techniques while undertaking my archaeological research and take this knowledge on successfully to my career."
