CIOB Low Carbon Initiative

Overview

 CIOB Low Carbon Initiative

Vision

The Chartered Institute of Building is committed to reducing carbon emissions from the built environment.

The Institute will lead the construction industry in meeting its regulatory targets under the UK Low Carbon Transition Plan; through innovation and best practice in project planning, procurement, design, construction, maintenance and operation.

Working with the industry, the CIOB will do this by engaging with:

  • Government - to ensure better regulation, compliance and support;
  • Education - to improve knowledge, training and skills; and
  • Industry - to provide thought leadership, implement best practice, and inspire world-class performance

Turning vision into reality

The CIOB is an independent authority and charity established for the public benefit. Its strength and influence lies in its membership database of senior construction management personnel across the breadth of the built environment and construction industries.

It is within this context that a Carbon Reduction Working Group has been established to take forward the CIOB’s low carbon agenda.

The group has given itself 12 months to deliver practical solutions for the industry on how to meet government carbon reduction targets in the short, medium and long term.

The group is committed to working with government departments, educational establishments and other industry bodies to ensure a joined up, practical approach. The aim of the group is not to re-invent the wheel, or replicate the work of previous initiatives; but to make a difference on the ground, now, by changing industry practices and behavior.

Members of the CIOB Carbon Reduction Working Group are as follows:
