£1,000 award for high-achieving student announced
15 June 2010

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) will present the special award to an exceptional C&BE Level 3 Diploma student who has achieved an overall grade B to A* and a good profile of grades for their Principle Learning and Project modules. As keen supporters of the Diploma, the CIOB is offering the cash prize to motivate and encourage young people to take up careers in the built environment.

Bridget Boreham, the CIOB’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are delighted to support the Diploma and reward the student who has achieved the strongest profile each year. The Diploma places the built environment at the heart of mainstream secondary education and a whole generation will now see opportunities for careers that, until now, they were hardly aware of.

“Too often the brightest pupils in schools are not aware of the positive difference this industry makes to people’s lives and the environment around us. It is in everyone’s interest to make sure young people get the skills they need to succeed, whether they decide to go into a job with training or continue studying at college or university.”

The winning entry will be judged by representative from the CIOB and the Diploma Delivery Partnership team. The triumphant student will receive their award at a red-carpet ceremony held on 14 October in the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.

As the lead partner in the Diploma Development Partnership (DDP), ConstructionSkills has worked closely with CIOB to establish this year’s award. Nick Gooderson, Head of Training and Qualifications at ConstructionSkills said: “The Diploma in C&BE is a very challenging and dynamic course, and it is only right that we should recognise and reward the achievements of our hardworking students.

“The prize of £1,000 could make a real difference to a student’s future education, whether they choose the path of Higher Education, or whether they decide to take on an apprenticeship, it is there to help encourage even more talent into this vibrant industry.”
