The CIOB/Waterford IT Student of the Year Award 2011 was presented to Cormac Hickey on 8th March. Cormac, who is currently completing a Masters in Civil Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, recently graduated with first class honours in the BSc (Hons) Construction Management & Engineering programme. The award was presented by the Chair of the CIOB Southern Centre, John Hillis.
In celebrating Cormac’s achievement, Programme Leader, Brian Graham commented, “having worked in industry for a number of years as a Construction Manager, Cormac joined the CME programme in 2010, as an advanced entry student. He made a positive contribution to the final year group and always conducted himself in a professional and diligent manner. We are delighted that his hard work and achievements have been recognised by the CIOB and wish him well for the future.”
Prior to the award presentation, Niamh Webbley-O’Gorman spoke to the gathered construction management students about the CIOB, explaining routes to membership and how CIOB can assist members as students and once they have graduated. John Hillis, accompanied by Eoin Burns, Novus Ireland Representative to the Southern Centre, introduced the group to Novus and invited students to get involved.
