Experienced Practitioner Assessed Programme (EPA)

The Qualification
The Chartered Institute of Building new Experienced Practitioner Assessment is now the main route for experienced construction professionals wishing to become Chartered Members of the Institute (Chartered Builder – MCIOB), as it has replaced the Direct Membership Examination Route (DMX). It is open to construction practitioners who have obtained 5 years relevant management experience in the construction industry.
Three Step Process
Part A: Initial application to the CIOB for entry onto the EPA programme to evaluate your suitability. This can be found on the CIOB website.
Part B: The Experienced Practitioners Assessment Programme consists of four study modules:
- Health, Safety and the Environment
- Construction Technology
- Management
- Contract and Commercial Practice
Health, Safety and the Environment and Construction Technology Modules are assessed by written assignments that must be submitted by a specified date in September 2012 to the CIOB.
Management, and Contract and Commercial Practice are assessed by one examination for each module in November 2012.
Part C: The Professional Review. On successfully completing the EPA Programme, candidates are required to take the next step which consists of writing a report and attending an interview conducted by the Chartered Institute of Building.
Devcon (UK) Ltd can offer Professional Review Sessions/Workshops that concentrate on report preparation, proof reading of reports, interview techniques and carrying out mock interviews by suitably qualified consultants.
EPA Course Duration and Support:
The Devcon (UK) Ltd EPA programme consists of 20 sessions which are run in the evening from the end of February 2012 to October 2012. Devcon (UK) Ltd have considerable experience of delivering CIOB programmes (15 years plus with DMX delivery), we feel that this provides an adequate amount of time for candidates to digest what they have been taught and gain an understanding of what is required when dealing with assignments and examinations.
Over the programme, the consultants will concentrate on reviewing and development of assignments, developing a strategy to answer examination questions and responding to sample questions (revision).
Draft assignments are proof read and critical comments are made to each individual candidate.
Our consultants provide full support throughout the taught programme via email and telephone communication.
The course locations are at our training facilities at Essex Enterprise Centre, Unit 6, 33 Noble Square, Basildon, Essex SS13 1LT, and Ashe Construction Ltd Cooks Way Hitchin.
Course Fees:
EPA evening course cost: £950.00 + Vat for Part B. This fee is purely for the Devcon (UK) LTD EPA Programme, and excludes the Part A application and Part C Professional interview workshop; all other fees need to be confirmed with the CIOB on 01344 630 700.

Chartered Environmentalist – Cenv

Chartered Environmentalist workshop.
Are you working in the area of Sustainability? If so as a member (MCIOB) or Fellow (FCIOB) of the institute then you can apply to become Chartered Environmentalist CEnv.
The workshop is similar to the Professional Review and we will assist you with the template preparation and also preparation for the interview.
Full support will be offered during the workshop to experienced professionals who feel they are ready for the next step.

New Professional Review Process

Professional Review workshop.
The Board of Trustees agreed recently to changes to the Professional Review process. The changes mean the application for Chartered Membership will be a paper based submission only. The interview will no longer be included.
The changes are detailed on the website. The link below has all the details including timelines for changing from the old interview process.
Current documents will be removed from the CIOB website on the 29th February and replaced with the new ones. Applications for the current PR system will be accepted up to the 31st March
Full support in the preparation of the New Report Template will be offered at the workshop followed by feedback via email by an assessor.

The Qualification
Fellowship FCIOB is the highest class of membership in the CIOB. It is awarded only to those applicants who hold very responsible positions in their chosen field, who have brought distinction to construction and who have added to the prestige of the Chartered Institute of Building.
The Fellowship Committee, which decides upon transfer to Fellowship, meets four times a year in March, June, September and December.
Applications for transfer must reach CIOB headquarters at Englemere no later than one month in advance of the meetings.
The meeting dates are published in the Institute’s Contact magazine and on the website at http://www.ciob.org.uk. Applicants are advised of the result of their submission within one week of the Committee meeting.
Fellowship Workshop
The workshop is carried out on an individual basis. Discuss relevant experience, check CV, Job description and CPD records.
Candidates are mentored through the application process; this includes completion of the template.
Draft reports will be reviewed and supportive feedback given to the candidate until the report is satisfactory.
