Fifteen members of the Essex Centre visited the Calorex Heat Pumps factory to gain first hand knowledge of the product range, quality and business philosophy of Calorex and to gain an understanding of heat pump technology and its implementation in the UK. Essex Chairman Marcel Cooper organised the event in conjunction with Andrew Neeves of Calorex, who are a small local company founded in the late 1970's. 

Calorex are now achieving global market penetration producing a wide range of high quality heat pumps and dehumidifiers.  They offer a bespoke service and can design units to individual applications from small garage dehumidifiers through to massive heat pumps for swimming pools, office blocks and huge residential applications.

Calorex favour deep well ground sourced heat pumps since these achieve the constant efficiency throughout the year as heat is drawn from the depths of greater than 15m where soil temperatures are constant throughout the year.  Calorex also produce air sourced heat pumps and are increasing their market penetration with these products, which are often more appropriate to retrofit applications. The importance of proper design and specification with both types of heat pump cannot be overstated, in the case of ground source, the ground loop must be of sufficient size to ensure that heat can be drawn successfully from the soil with no reduction in efficiency over time and in the case of air sourced heat pumps, it is essential that the unit is designed to operate in our climate.  Cheap imports from overseas may just leave end users with expensive problems.

Calorex are proud of their production quality and their no nonsense approach to customer care.  Records of every Calorex unit made are kept and, given any serial number, replacement components can be identified and ordered. Calorex's record of reliability is extraordinarily high yet Calorex do not offer maintenance contracts for their domestic heat pumps because no maintenance is necessary - compare this with what the other manufacturers require and you will begin to understand the philosophy of this small, independent company and why it has a glowing future.
