HSE RIDDOR - Update
21 February 2012

The statutory reporting under RIDDOR is now a predominantly online system.  Revised online forms make the reporting process quick and easy.  Employers no longer need to report incidents by email, post or fax.

Moving to a predominantly online system for reporting incidents and injuries will allow HSE to make significant efficiencies, and will also allow businesses to easily and conveniently report incidents.

The HSE recognise that major or fatal incidents and injuries are traumatic and feel it is important to keep a telephone service for people making these reports.

Online

Appropriate online forms are available on the HSE's website (see link).  These forms are interactive, intuitive and easy to use, and an online help facility is provided.

Telephone

All incidents can be reported online, but a telephone service remains for reporting fatal and major injuries and incidents only by calling the Incident Contact Centre on 0845 300 9923 (opening hours Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm).

Reporting out of hours

The HSE and local authority enforcement officers are not an emergency service.  The type of circumstances where HSE may need to respond out of hours are:

  • following a work-related death
  • following a serious incident where there have been multiple casualities
  • following an incident which has caused major disruption such as evacuation of people, closure of roads, large numbers of people going to hospital, etc

If your incident fits these descriptions ring the duty officer on 0151 922 9235.
