Trip to the Top

On Tuesday 6 June, members of CIOB Greater Manchester Centre were treated to a terrific site visit as guests of Carillion to their £62M 47 storey 555’ (169m) tall Beetham Tower in central Manchester.
It is the 7th highest building in the UK and is divided into both hotel and residential accommodation. The glass-floored ‘Sky Bar’ currently being finished on the 23rd floor will most certainly be one of the most popular venues in the city centre. It is a testament to the quality and timeliness of the project that all but 2 of the apartments are now sold.
Carillion Project Director Steve Jessop MCIOB accompanied members to the top of the tower for a commanding view of the entire North West region taking in the Lake District, Snowdonia, Peak National Park and Cheshire with Manchester Airport clearly visible as well as the west coast.
“The view from the top was quite simply outstanding,” stated CIOB Greater Manchester Centre Chair and CIOB NW Chair Eric Stokes MCIOB.
Carillion will shortly commence hand over of the lower 23 floors to Hilton Hotel group for their commissioning of this magnificent addition to the Manchester skyline. Finishing work is still underway on the residential accommodation and the 2-storey penthouse suite – owned by the buildings’ architect Ian Simpson and reputed to be valued at some £4m.
