Dorset Centre Luncheon 2008

Wednesday, April 02, 2008

The Dorset Centre Luncheon was a further success this year, taking place once again at the Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth on Friday 14th March 2008.

The guest speaker was Gary Fooks, the Dorset 2012 Legacy Manager, who is charged with maximising the economic, environmental and sporting potential created by Weymouth and Portland hosting the Olympic Games’ sailing events in 2012.  Gary was a most enthusiastic speaker and passionate about the way forward in terms of the preparation and drive required to deliver the Games down here in the South West.

A sports-based auction also took place at the Luncheon, in order to raise funds for the chairman’s charity, Julia’s House – a hospice for children with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions.  The committee are delighted to announce that £1,887 was raised on the day which is a fantastic feat – our sincere thanks to all those members who put their hands in their pockets and to the following companies/organisations for sponsoring the following sporting items:

Southampton FC signed shirt              -       Jewsons
Portsmouth FC signed shirt and ball   -       Encon Insulation
Bournemouth FC signed shirt and
family voucher                                    -       Greendale Construction
Weymouth FC signed shirt                            -       The RICS
Football gloves signed by Gordon Banks        -       Chartered Building Companies
Cricket Ball signed by Shane Warne   -       Brockenhurst College

Your generosity will go a long way in providing some comfort and support to these children and their families.
