Waste Management presented by WM Tracey Ltd

Monday, April 07, 2008

The West of Scotland Centre was pleased to have Gerry Hunter as guest speakers with assistance from Callum McDonald both of William Tracey Ltd.

The evening’s seminar discussed the topic of waste management.

Gerry opened by quoting some hard facts with respect to landfill tax and forthcoming hikes i.e. 2007 £24/Tonne , 2008 £32/Tonne & 2009 £40/Tonne.

It was pointed out that these prices will continue to escalate until basic rollonoff reaches £1,000/Skip. It was pointed out by Gerry that it is Law in England & Wales to have in place a properly documented and implemented Waste Management Plan.

Gerry pointed out that the Government is looking for a reduction of 50% of Construction waste stream away from landfill sites by 2010 & 75% by 2020.

The speaker placed a strong emphasis the three R’s Reduce, Reuse & Recycle and the need for proper on site control of segregated material by the introduction of waste monitors.

Callum stated that good waste management is good business for Construction and poor waste management is good business for William Tracey.

Gerry invited any interested parties to see first hand William Tracey’s waste management facility based at Linwood, Paisley.

There was a lively Question & Answer session after which the events were brought to a close with a show of appreciation by the audience.
