London Conservation Event 16 June 2008
Wednesday, April 30, 2008
Monday 16 June 2008 is the additional date which has been added to the successful series of Conferences on Conservation Project Management.
The event will take place at One Birdcage Walk, originally the site of James I's aviary, which was extended by his grandson, Charles II. Birdcage Walk was created as part of a post-Restoration re-modelling of St James Park and the building is regarded as one of the finest examples of traditional architecture in Westminster.
This will complete a very successful conference series that has been hosted at Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire, Dublin and most recently Glasgow. The conferences have been chaired by Chartered Builder John Edwards of TFT Cultural Heritage, who said: “These conferences have illustrated best practice, but have also highlighted huge problems in the way heritage projects are managed. “I am sure that audiences have left much better informed and very much aware that projects will go wrong unless they are managed properly”.
This series of conferences have been organised jointly with the National Trust, Insitute of Conservation, Construction Skills and the Institute of Historic Building Conservation. They have attracted an audience of nearly three hundred and it is gratifying to know that for many of those attending, this was their first introduction to the CIOB.
The conference has brought together an expert and authoritative team of speakers and will benefit anyone involved in conservation and heritage projects or generally involved with the care of the historic environment. It will also benefit those who may infrequently get involved with the historic environment.
