On Friday 11th April the new annual Tyneside centre five a side tournament took place. In recent years the tournament had lapsed and after the hard work of one centre committee member it was able to be resurrected in stunning style. David Hepton a former  centre chair noted that in years gone by there had been a tournament and took it upon himself to organise and run the new event single handed and with stunning results. 

The event kindly sponsored by Elliot Holmes Johnson and held at Complete Football Gosforth had initially took the form of ten teams in two leagues and was within 24hrs of being advertised was oversubscribed by 50%, therefore we increased the teams to 15. With teams from contractors, architects, Surveyors and just about every level throughout the industry.

After 3 hours of gladiatorial combat in appalling wet conditions, the final came down to WD Davison & Son Ltd, decorating contractors from Gateshead and Dunelm property services, with WD Davison emerging victorious.

After the tournament Richard Humphrey (branch chair) noted that the success of the tournament should be spread over the region for all its members and next year taken on as a branch initiative spreading to the Teesside and Durham and Wearside centres with it being held over an entire day with upwards of 40 teams being included thus creating a North East tournament.
