Hertfordshire Centre - Chair's Address

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

It is a great privilege for me to be elected as the CIOB Hertfordshire Centre Chairman at the March AGM.  I am grateful for the support given to me by the committee members last year and for their continued support in forming the new committee for this year.  My thanks also go to Sally Hill who plays a valuable part behind the scenes in the organisation and administration of the Hertfordshire Centre.

Lastly, I would like to thank those members who attended some of last year’s seminars and took the trouble to complete the feed back form giving their comments at the end of the seminar.  These comments are useful in determining the events that most interest members and will greatly influence the topics for the next round of CPD events to be arranged for the events calendar.

A varied and informative series of seminars is being organised for the next twelve months, details of which will be publicised on the website.  Your attendance at the organised events will contribute substantially towards your CPD obligations.

It seems to me that the workplace now consists of more and more people working within a specialised field. For such members it becomes even more important that they should attend a varied calendar of seminar events (rather then just events related to their specialised subjects) and thereby increase their knowledge of the whole building process.

Despite the current downturn in the economy there are major challenges ahead with the Olympics.  Even those members not directly involved in the Olympics will almost certainly be stirred by the ripple effect that the building programme will cause.

The skills shortage will be the subject of a seminar being planned for next year, as well as PPC, TTP, Corporate Man Slaughter and Risk Management.  More seminar events and details will be published when arrangements are finalised.

I hope you will be able to attend some of the events being planned for this year and I look forward personally to seeing you.

Yours sincerely
David Morgan
