Faculty of Architecture and Surveying Award 2008

The recipients of this year’s Faculty of Architecture and Surveying Award were honoured and delighted to receive their award from Howard Shiplee, Director of Construction at the Olympic Delivery Authority at the CIOB Innovation and Research Awards 2008.
Commenting on the Innovation and Research Awards Howard stated,
“It is reassuring to see that the issues deemed important by the graduates, academics and Industry professionals gathered here are already being addressed by the ODA in constructing the infrastructure for London 2012 Games”
Commending the FAS winners, Tim Garnett and Jamie Bellingham on their A90 – 60 Person Modular Prison Houseblock Howard stated, “Their award is a shining example of where design, utilising modern methods, provides an absolute fit with public need and reduces risk of planning uncertainty.
Design maximises offsite construction = minimising costs for managing construction within secure environment of a prison.
In his address Howard focused on where the 2012 Olympics will deliver. Sydney looked at the environment. Athens concentrated on environmental impact and transport. London is looking at sustainability in the round (The Greenest Games Ever) – social housing, new jobs, training. Environmental benefits identified including power, major contribution from renewables, reduction in water demand, biofules, BRIAM excellent. Transport will be transformed for the worst connected site in Europe to the best.
All of those attending the awards left inspired by the vision, commitment and enthusiasm conveyed by Howard.
