Giant step for professional co-operation in the South East construction industry
Friday, June 20, 2008
Fourteen construction industry professional institutes in the South East have agreed a programme of action that will enable them to present a co-ordinated front in:
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Policy and strategic issues
- Recruitment.
On 3 June 2008, members of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) in the South East signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The Memorandum sets out how the main professional construction industry institutes in the region will work more closely together to:
- deliver a programme of pan professional training courses and facilitate wider cooperation between institutes in the delivery of training;
- encourage young people and others to see the diversity of the construction industry as a career;
- enable institutes to comment collectively on strategic matters and policy issues impacting on the construction industry in the south east;
- The members of CIC South East will also work with CIC-UK to review and promote the national web-based database of training courses for the construction industry, that was pioneered by the region.
CIC SE Chair, Graham Anderson says of the Memorandum of Understanding:
“This is a great step forward for our region’s construction and built environment sector and I am delighted that the south east is leading the way in signing such a comprehensive agreement. The Memorandum of Understanding is an important practical step towards day-to-day co-operation between construction professional institutes. It also provides a great focus to the work of CIC SE, giving us a clear mission statement:
Building knowledge, Building capacity, Building awareness”
