New Guidance on the Thorough Examination of Lifting Equipment

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

The HSE has published a new guidance document on the  “Thorough Examination of Lifting Equipment – A Simple Guide for Employers”.

The document gives guidance on the options you have under LOLER relating to the requirement for thorough examination and inspection of lifting equipment and explains the benefits of having an ‘examination scheme’. However, this does not replace the necessity for operators to carry out checks to lifting equipment and accessories before use.

It includes Telehanderlers and Lift trucks, Cranes, Scissor lifts, Construction hoists, etc. It also covers accessories for lifting including Slings, Hooks, Shackles, Eyebolts and ropes used for climbing or positioning work, etc

It is avaiable free from: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg422.pdf
