2008 / 09 Innovation and Research Awards CATEGORIES ANNOUNCED

There are seven categories for the 2008/2009 International Innovation and Research Awards:
Undergraduate Dissertation
The Undergraduate Dissertation Award is for outstanding dissertation research from students.
Premier Award: £500, Medal & Certificate
Highly Commended Prizes: £300, Medal and Certificate
Dissertations must have been assessed as a first class honours with a mark of at least 70% from students studying for their first degree.
Masters Dissertation
The Masters Dissertation Award is in recognition of the importance of research undertaken at master's degree level.
Premier Award: £750, Medal & Certificate
Highly Commended Prizes: £500, Medal & Certificate
Dissertations must have been assessed with a Distinction grade.
Innovation Research Paper
This Award is in recognition of the importance of research undertaken at any stage throughout higher education either within industry or in academia.
Premier Award: £750, Medal & Certificate
Highly Commended Prizes: £500, Medal & Certificate
The paper must have been recognised to be of significantly high standard and may take the form of a large coursework project, field study write-up, PhD study or similar. The research must demonstrate innovation within the area of construction or which can be applied to benefit the industry.
Innovation Achievers Award
The Innovation Achievers Award is open to any organisation or project team that can demonstrate the sharing of innovative ideas and practices that can provide benfits to practitioners operating within the construction industry. This includes innovative process solutions to problems within a project or process.
Innovation is about doing things differently in an exciting way. It's about new ideas that have or can have a positive impact on the construction environment. Innovation can be at any stage of development and entries should seek to demonstrate the benefits.

Highly Commended: Certificates
Submissions must consist of a brief report detailing a successful innovative practice. This must be based on any construction related area and clearly demonstrate benefits of innovative practice.
Architecture & Surveying Innovation Award
Open Award - Sponsored by the Faculty of Architecture and Surveying (FAS)
This Award is relevant to any organisation or project team that demonstrates how innovative design and/or surveying practice are integrated in their strategy, managemnet and processes. The objective of the award is to encourage and profile those engaged in research and innovation in the built environment.
FAS is unique in its composition, representing architecture, surveying and related consultancy disciplines within the CIOB
Premier Award: Trophy & Certificate
Highly Commended: Certificates
We would encourage submissions that focus on the advance of theory or practuice of design, architecture or surveying. Applications that include aspects of integrated teams will be particularly welcome.

International Project Management Award
Open Award - Sponsored by the International Construction Project Management Association (ICPMA)
The ICPMA is an international umbrella association founded in June 2003 by representatives of International Construction Project Management Institutes. ICPMA focuses on international knowledge managment.
The ICPMA Award will be awarded to the most effective demonstration of construction project management competence by an individual or project team.
Premier Award: Trophy & Cerificate
Highly Commended: Certificates
Submissions for the International Management Award are invited that focus on practical innovation in the field of Construction Project Management.

Innovation and Technology Development Prize
Open Award - Sponsored by PERA - The Innovation Network
PERA is an international network of technology development and industry support centres that aid development of innovative new technology and products, improve business performance and enhance management and leadership skills.
Prize: €55,000 & Trophy
(The €55,000 is in the form of a business consultancy leading to a funding submission).
The winner of the Innovation and Technology Prize will see their new concept proceed through the stages of commercialisation. The idea must drive an innovative development in technology, such as new advanced materials or process related concepts. Entrants must demonstrate in a short report that their innovation is able to create intellectual property rights and be capable of being patented locally or worldwide.
Applicants must be based in the UK or elsewhere in Europe for this award. Joint submissions are welcome.
