Industry best practice - 22/09/08

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

The speaker was Glenn Hawkins of Clear Construction Ltd who was formally a consultant for BSRIA. The event was organised by Julian Winton, the junior vice chair of the Essex Centre who has previously worked with Glenn at the Carillion project for News International in Waltham Cross.

Glenn focused on the quality culture within the construction industry and why it is difficult to manage. He suggested methods of increasing awareness of both quality and best practice issues. Glenn also explained that quality and best practice is not confined to customer care managers, quality assurance managers or compliance managers but is relevant to all managers and supervisors on site.

This gave an indication into what the site supervision should be looking for when carrying out quality inspections. The event was well attended and most attendees saw the benefit of this presentation.
With an ever growing emphasis on professional delivery and client focus this subject provided ample information to send the members away with a greater awareness of what is currently occurring on their projects and an insight into how the current culture can be improved.

For those interested in “getting it right first time” this is a must see event.
