Wiltshire Trip to Bowood House

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

The Wiltshire Centre had a very enjoyable trip to the famous Bowood house, Calne, Wiltshire on Wednesday 24th September 2008.

They enjoyed the 18th Century architecture of the building and the splendid interiors of the Adam Orangery, the Chapel, Library by C R Cockerell, the New Hall, the Sculpture Gallery and the Laboratory where Dr Joseph Priestley discovered oxygen in 1774.

The photo attached shows members viewing the extremely rare book printed by Robert Adam after his grand tour - for building people a 'must see'.

Our thanks are extended to curator Dr Kate Fielden for being our tour guide. After the tour members were treated to a delicious cream tea.
