Eastern Branch Student Challenge

Girton College, Cambridge was the venue for the 2009 Eastern Branch Student Challenge.  The event was a huge success with eight teams of four students competing in a question-and-answer quiz.

The teams of students, representing Oaklands College, Chelmsford College, Anglia Ruskin University, SDC and Morgan Ashurst, had the rules explained to them by Terry Keen FCIOB, quiz master for the evening.

Anglia Ruskin University was the evening’s unprecedented success story, scooping both first place and runners up.  Both ARU’s teams were at the top of the scoreboard for most of the quiz, with the winning team consisting of Richard Brittain, Allan Beckett, Andrew Nowosad and Dean Herbert scoring 55 points.  Their fellow students Stuart Felgate, Mark Loftus, Shane Eke and Tom Hirst came incredibly close scoring 53 points.

Shaun Valentine, Branch Chairman, said “We were impressed with the enthusiasm and professionalism that the students applied to the challenge and would like to thank all the teams who entered and their supporters.

”Eastern Branch would like to thank the Student Challenge sponsors Ashe Construction Limited and Devcon (UK) Limited a Chartered Building Company who provided the cash prizes for the winners. Martin Petts, Contracts Director, Ashe Construction, was on hand to congratulate the winning team and present the awards.

Eastern Branch are excited to have Anglia Ruskin University representing the East of England at the CIOB Student Challenge finals in Ascot on the 12th March 2009.
