We are pleased that the feedbacks from those who are receiving the CIOB eNewsletters have been very positive, as they found it a useful and informative way to keep in touch with the Institute.

Should you wish to receive our emails, please contact your Centre Administrator or send us a request to receive the CIOB Centre/Branch eNewsletters.  This option is also open to non-members.

CMYA 2009-2010 – Sponsorship Opportunities

2009 marks the 47th Anniversary of the establishment of the CIOB in Ireland and the 16th year of the running of the Construction Manager of the Year Award (CMYA).  This competition recognises the ability of managers in the construction industry to deliver projects on time, within budget and to very demanding standards.  The CMYA is seen as a prestigious award within the industry and one which during the current economic environment is much coveted for it’s recognition of the excellent skills of the recipient.

There are opportunities to become more involved with the CMYA 2009-2010 and associate your brand with the best professional practice in construction today.  Sponsoring one of the awards would involve a marketing programme of cost effective, measurable and targeted activity reaching the CIOB membership and the wider construction industry; beneficial for developing brand, increasing product awareness and driving sales amongst key audiences.

For further details on sponsorship opportunities for the CMYA 2009-2010, please click here.

If you are interested in taking up sponsorship of this event then please contact the Branch Manager and she will be delighted to discuss further details with you.

NOVUS Group is a flexible and responsive local network for trainee construction professionals working towards full membership of the CIOB and recent members of the CIOB.  Among the main objectives of this group are: raise the Institute’s profile within its region; increase the no. of CIOB members; provide support and encouragement to membership progression; provide a forum for the younger professionals; provide a mentoring framework; provide a vehicle for current and prospective members to voice their views.

Due to the success of this model in London, the CIOB in Ireland have decided to set up its own local networking group for young Irish construction professionals.  We are now looking for interested members to assist in setting up this local network throughout Ireland.

If you are interested in participating, please contact your Branch Manager at the details above.  Further details are available at NOVUS Group in Ireland.

CIOB Courses and Course Providers in Ireland

The CIOB plays a leading role in the development and continual improvement of educational standards in the built environment at a national and international level.  The achievement of professionalism at all levels within the construction industry is at the core of CIOB work.  In establishing the criteria for membership of the CIOB, the Institute has developed a framework of educational requirements designed to reflect industry needs and provision.

The CIOB has developed courses in Site Supervision and Site Management, and has also designed the EPA Programme and the EPAR Route.  These programmes involve candidates being able to apply their acquired experiential knowledge for assessment in managing people, processes and the technology of construction.  Upon successful completion of these courses the candidates may apply for membership of the CIOB at the relevant level appropriate to their qualifications and experience.

These courses are delivered through colleges, universities and private companies.  For a list of cur current registered course providers, please click here.

Memorandum of Understanding between the CIOB and HETAC

In March 2008, the CIOB signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Higher Education Training Awards Council (HETAC).  This collaboration enables the CIOB to recognise Level 8 (and higher) cognate construction degree programmes accredited by HETAC as fulfilling the academic requirements for Corporate membership of the CIOB, and further agrees to provide appropriate pathways to such Corporate membership.

The pathways will also meet the needs of holders of Level 7 construction degrees accredited by HETAC, through the achievement of credits at Level 8 in the Irish National Framework of Qualifications.  Niamh O’Gorman, former Centre Administrator for the CIOB in Ireland, has moved to a new role to facilitate the promotion of this agreement.

As Business Development Officer – Ireland, Niamh will travel to ITs around the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland talking to staff and students.  She will also work with businesses to ensure that all who come under this agreement are made aware of their options.

For further information, please click here.  Should you have any queries relating to this MOU, please contact Niamh at: +353 (0)1 6401905 or nogorman@ciob.org.uk

Facing the consequences and challenges of unemployment is a highly individual experience in which there are no accepted norms for securing suitable employment.  Identifying ways to positively differentiate yourself, and the skills that you posses, from potential competitors has never been more important.

Aiming to provide guidance to its Member in such a relevant topic, the CIOB has partnered with Career Management Consultants Ltd (CMC) and put together a range of advice centred at CV-writing, interview techniques and effective networking.
