Mock Mediation presentation by Veale Wasborough construction division

Joint Hampshire and Dorset CPD event at Forset Lodge Hotel, Lyndhurst

13 October 2009.

The CIOB Hampshire and Dorset Centre members were treated to yet another superb presentation from Bristol based legal practice, Veale Wasborough on the topic of Mediation. Veale Wasborough construction division have a varied client base spread over the whole of the south of England specialising in construction contracts, dispute resolution and the like.  The team have previously presented for the Dorset Centre with a mock Adjudication, bringing with them an experienced Adjudicator.  On this occasion they brought experienced Mediator Jon Hopkins for the role play. Jon is co-founder of Hopkins Philand Ltd, a company specialising in insurance and re-insurance disputes.  Partner Huw Morgan narrated for the audience, whilst Partner Jason Prosser and the team of solicitors acted out parts in a fictional case being disputed between a main contractor and a sub-contractor.  The presentation in two parts lasted over two hours, however due to a lively and engaging script, the time flew to the 9pm finish after taking questions from the floor.  We look forward to seeing Veale Wasborough return to us again at future CIOB CPD events in Hampshire and Dorset.

Into the 21st Century with a Past President
Grant Harrison, Colin Harding PPCIOB, Ed Quinn.

Colin Harding PPCIOB, Chairman of the G&H Group and Verbus Systems Ltd delivered a CPD presentation to approximately 50 members and guests at a joint CPD presentation between the Dorset and Hampshire Centres and in association with the RIBA.

The presentation entitled “Leading Construction into the 21st Century with the Verbus System” was extremely well received.

Mr Harding gave an account on how Verbus have adapted the technology and mass production techniques of manufacturing shipping containers in China, to create high strength steel construction modules that lock together to form the complete structure of buildings of all types and uses.

Colin believes that the Verbus System, by using car production manufacturing techniques to create fully fitted modules, that simply click together on site, will revolutionise traditional construction worldwide.
