Sussex Centre Chairman - Kevin Trash FCIOB
Kevin Trash

Hello and welcome to our web page.  We have a busy programme of events coming up for the autumn, which is not only wide and varied, but is also very good value for money.

We are looking forward to another informative visit to the Falmer Stadium, to be the new home of Brighton and Hove Albion.  This event has proved very popular and is again regrettably oversubscribed.  It is however pleasing to be able to offer access to a large scale construction project, local to us, particularly as challenging economic times continue.

In additon to this we have a Building Regulation Update, and events on Green Roofing ideas and Time Management, they are all listed in our 'events' section and can be booked on-line.

I hope to see many members at forthcoming events and look forward to suggestions and active participation from membership in the months to come, it is an excellent way of maintaining your professional status and of meeting like-minded construction professionals.

Our remaining committee meetings for 2010 are scheduled for:

* Monday 20 September 2010

* Monday 6 December 2010

at 7.30 pm, Shoreham Airport.

The Committee are always pleased to see new faces at our meetings and members are welcome to attend on a casual basis, please contact Angela George if you would like to come along.

Minutes from the 2010 AGM are available in the 'Documents' section of this web page, and there is a map and directions to our meeting venue at Shoreham Airport.

Angela George, our Centre Admininstrator, is available to discuss any events that are advertised and helps to co-ordinate and promote our activities.  Her contact details are:-Tel: 0845 070 6097  Post: PO Box 289, The Haven, Billingshurst, West Sussex, RH149BQ  Email: ageorge@ciob.org.uk

A team from the CIOB beat some very tough opposition to win the RICS Sussex Inaugural Property Quiz, which took place at the Al Duomo Restaurant, Pavilion Buildings, Brighton.  The evening was hosted by the London property compere, Phil Shearer.  The "theme" was 'What the Romans Did for Us'.  The CIOB team, which comprised of Kevin Trash (Sussex Chairman),Terry Nitman, Laurence Hulkes and Steve Hayman from Cheesmur Building Contractors were proud winners of the wine - well done Sussex

London's Lost Route to the Sea - a construction orientated networking event
  On Thursday 17 June the Wiggenshold canal boat set off, to explore the restored section of the Wey and Arun Canal, in the idyllic village of Loxwood.  The river was calm, the weather was beautiful and all the guests had a very pleasant evening.  They were guided along the river by the Project Manager of the £1.8 million works, who talked about, amongst other things, the buidling of the road bridge, acquaduct and rorestored lock.  The tour was followed by supper at 'The Onslow Arms', a former toll house and coaching in which provided delicious home cooked dishes.

Chartered Environmentalist and Professional Review Workshops

Jayne Townsend, Sussex Centre committee member,  is pictured here on the right with some of the participants from our recent workshops.

The courses were full with a total of over 40 delegates attending.  The feedback was very positive, with most people wanting to go on to pursue either full membership or environmentalist status.
