Mark Wilkinson FCIOB Lancashire & Cumbria Centres Chairman is available to answer any queries regarding your involvement with the Centres. Please contact on email Mark.Wilkinson@thomasarmstrong.co.uk or mobile number 07967 340557. I started my construction career as a tradesman Joiner working up through the ranks of Sub-Agent, Site Agent, Project Manager and through to Senior Contracts Manager working on all manner of construction projects. I became actively involved at Centre level for C&L because I felt I could give something back by assisting others to progress their membership, this has ultimately led to my successful election to Chairman. My aim as Chairman is to build on the excellent work done by those who have held the post before me and to assist the dedicated members of the committee in delivering future initiatives, basically consisting of: encouraging new membership; assisting and promoting progression within the institute and giving members of Cumbria & Lancashire Centre support in doing this. We have recently reviewed the delivery of our CPD events in recognition of the geographical area in which we serve, and as such now present at Leyland, Penrith and our newest location Sellafield, we are also trying to combine events with other institutes to deliver a diverse range of topics for the very many professional disciplines from which our members are drawn. The encouragement of new membership will extend to 'tomorrows' generation and as such we are looking at the Schools,Colleges and Universities in our area. We have vast levels of academic expertise on our committee able to deliver this. We also offer a 'mentoring' service for existing members, encouraging and assisting them through the process of upgrading their membership status. I think that now, more than ever, the need for recognition for individuals in this current financial market is very important for career progression. The status of the CIOB in the industry is widely recognised and I am proud to be a member. It has undoubtedly assisted me in my career to date, not only by displaying my Chartership but giving me the opportunity for networking and meeting other professionals in the area.
