CRI submission guidelines
CRI is always looking for new sources of information and ideas that can improve the practice of management in the construction industry.
The editors welcome proposals for articles in Construction Research and Innovation (CRI), however potential contributors should be aware that space is limited and we can accept only the best. CRI aims to be the source of the best new ideas and research for people creating, leading and transforming their business, so “best” means the most authoritative, the most applicable to industry and the most interesting.
Our four main themes are Foresight, Analysis, Strategy and Knowledge. Articles may be research-driven, case studies, or evidence-based essays. We do not publish research papers in the academic format. However, if the results of your research meet our criteria, we welcome article proposals based on those results.
Contributors should submit a proposal first. Care should be taken in drafting the proposal because we’ll make our decision based on it. It should be around 500 words in length and should directly answer the following questions:
1. What have you discovered?
2. Why would readers care?
3. What is new about your discovery or your idea?
4. How can your research or idea be applied, today?
5. For which kinds of companies is your research applicable, and for which is it not? Why?
6. Describe the research.
7. On what previous work (either of your own or of others) does this idea build?
8. What is the source of your authority? What academic, professional, or personal experience will you draw on?
Some of the questions we will ask ourselves when evaluating your proposals are:
Is this idea new? If not, does it offer a new and useful perspective on an existing idea? What is it based on? Did it persuade me? Did I find it interesting? Would CRI readers find it interesting? Does it address an issue that matters to managers? Could it be put into practice? Are there good illustrations? Have I seen the same case studies before?
Papers submitted to CRI should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, and should be the wholly original work of the named authors. We will try and respond to your proposal within four weeks.
Please note that all articles undergo extensive editing and rewriting, and CRI holds copyright on the finished product. Authors continue to own the underlying ideas in the article. Finished articles will be between 1,000 and 4,000 words long.
A short autobiographical paragraph for all authors should be included. The details should comprise full name, with all academic and professional qualifications; career information, and professional interests. Autobiographical information will typically comprise 50 words per author. We will also require full contact details for all authors, comprising address, telephone number and e-mail.
Please email your proposal to:
Assistant Editor, Dr Sarah Peace. Email: cri@ciob.org.uk
Or post it to, Dr Sarah Peace, The Chartered Institute of Building, Englemere, Kings Ride, Ascot, Berkshire SL5 7TB
The editors look forward to receiving your papers.
