The Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) has published government proposals for changes to the Building Control system in England and Wales. Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) members now have an opportunity to feedback on the proposals, which will form the basis of The CIOB’s final submission to Government. Feedback must be submitted by Friday 30 May 2008.

- DCLG: The Future of Building Control: Consultation Paper - Planning Building and the Environment
This consultation paper sets out and seeks views on proposals by Government for changes to the building control system in England and Wales. The consultation closes on the 10 June 2008.
The changes proposed in this document are designed to address weaknesses in the current system, as identified by users of the system and the building control industry itself. They are intended to both improve compliance with the Building Regulations and further reduce the burdens associated with the system.

This survey report commissioned by the Department from the Building Control Alliance (BCA) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) provides information on the breakdown of building control activities carried out by members of Local Authority Building Control (LABC) and Association of Consultant Approved Inspectors (ACAI) in a one year period (2006-07)
The survey questionnaires covered a wide range of building control subjects and was one of the most extensive research projects ever undertaken into building control activities and practice.
This survey report is part of the supporting documents relating to The Future of Building Control - Consultation paper.
The findings and recommendations in this report are those of the consultant authors and do not necessarily represent the views or proposed policies of Communities and Local Government.
- DCLG: Economic analysis of changes to the Building Control Procedures - Planning, Building and the Environment
This report was commissioned by the Department from Europe Economics to provide economic support for an impact assessment concerning a review of Building Control procedures.
This report considered the following options:
- fixed review options
- raising compliance options
- effective inspection and other inspection options
The results from this report formed the basis of the impact assessements papers relating to The Future of Building Control: Consultation paper .
